Helping Billabong have a merry christmas
Billabong is a world known maker of surfboards, clothes and a wide range of other products related to the surfer lifestyle. Billabong’s products are sold in more than 11.000 stores around the world.
The challenge
In 2010, Billabong Australia wanted to increase Christmas sales in their 55 stores across the continent. Many stores were performing very well, but there was no exchange of ideas between them in order to spread best practice on how to exploit sales and promotion opportunities at this important time of the year.
The solution
With Nosco App, Billabong launched a short and intense idea campaign, focused on the subject:
The employees were asked to submit ideas in two categories; those for potential clients, and those for existing ones. All incoming ideas were evaluated against three criteria:
- "Ideas to drive better sales in your store over Christmas"

— Billabong’s products are sold in more than 11.000 stores around the world.
Every Billabong employee was given access to Nosco App, enabling them to upload photos, video and text, describing their best new ideas and examples of the most successful Christmas sales activities they had been using in their stores.
The campaign was also a competition, rewarding the author of the best idea with free Corona beer for 1 year, and the runner-up with a surfboard. Billabong is a dynamic organisation which employs a lot of young, energetic and creative people. The idea campaign attracted high interest from the employees, encouraging many of them to work together in order to win the contest.
The Results
Billabong was able to collect numerous Christmas sales ideas and examples of best practice as a result of the idea campaign.
These ideas were categorised and declared "up for grabs", consistent with the high degree of freedom every Billabong store is trusted with.
This new powerful catalogue of Christmas sales ideas was widely used by the stores. Sales increased compared to the year before and Billabong is planning to launch further idea campaigns in the future.
